The Book Club book

The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey is a critically acclaimed 2024 debut novel. Set in 1970s Yorkshire, at the time that a terrible serial killer remains uncaptured by the police, Miv, a 12-year-old girl starts investigating people in the local community to see if they might be the killer of local women.  What she discovers opens her eyes to the local community, and speeds her development from child to teenager.

If Miv can solve the case of the disappearing women, maybe this will also help her family stay in the local area?  Together with her friend Sharon they make a list of suspicious things in the neighbourhood.  But their search for truth reveals more secrets than they ever imagined.

*SHORTLISTED FOR BOOK OF THE YEAR - DEBUT FICTION AT THE BRITISH BOOK AWARDS 2025*

 Geoff says:

"This is a really sweet book.  It's fundamentally not a crime book but a bildungsroman of a young girl growing up in a difficult time in history - the background of the Yorkshire Ripper serial killer is true."
