The Book Club book

A really interesting mix of thriller, romance, comedy, as well as being a novel of ideas, Bel Canto is a literary novel you just can’t put down.

A fancy birthday party is being held at the home of the vice president of a South American country.  Roxane Coss, opera's most well known soprano, has entranced the international guests with her singing.  However, what was a lovely evening becomes something else as terrorists take everyone hostage. However, as time moves on, the terror subsides and militants and hostages create unexpected connections, and people from different continents become compatriots, friends, and lovers.

"Blissfully romantic....A strange, terrific, spellcasting story." -- San Francisco Chronicle

Geoff says:

"This is a prize-winning novel - Winner of The Women’s Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. It is a story for music lovers - somehow the reader hears the music that pours out of this beautiful novel."
