Ebenezer Scrooge is mean and unpleasant but will he change when the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, haunts him on Christmas Eve? Scrooge is visited by three spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future, showing him his mistakes and leading to a change in his outlook. Charles Dickens tells this incredible story in fascinating language full of adjectives, as well as with real humanity.

Geoff says:

"I chose this book because it is so well known, through movies and the theatre, but have you read the original in English? The themes of love, kindness and generosity means it is a positive, uplifting story, and still relevant today. We read the original text, which is short."

Only 8 places available. Click Add to Cart to reserve your place.

The Book

Genre: Classic

Language: British English

Suitable for: people familiar with reading in English - Advanced

Text: Original text

Length: 31,000 words

Dates & Time

Mondays from 23rd November - 21st December

17.30 CET (Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome & most EU)

16.30 (UTC+0/GMT+0) London, UK, Portugal

18.30 Greece, Ukraine

18.30 Turkey, Saudi Arabia

11.30 EST (New York/Boston)

12.30 Brasília BRT, (UTC -3:00)

Age

18+

Online class size

Maximum 8 participants, on Zoom, using break-out rooms for increased speaking and discussion

What you learn

To confidently speak and debate with others

To overcome any gaps by paraphrasing or rephrasing

To eradicate errors in grammar and pronunciation

To develop and extend areas of high level vocabulary

To be immersed in the natural patterns of English syntax

To gain a deeper understanding of cultural issues

To perfect & enhance your English through summarising

Your teacher

Geoff Hardy-Gould, BSc, MBA, CTEFLA, DTEFLA.

Over 20 years' experience of UK language schools.

Speaker at: 2026 IATEFL Conference; 2025 Literature SIG Conference; 2024 IATEFL Conference; 2023 IATEFL TechLit!
