Reading Books in English


I'm doing some academic research into the area of Reading Books in English to help you learn English. I have created a short questionnaire on google forms and would be delighted if you would give me your thoughts on reading books in English. There are 15 questions and it should take less than 10 minutes.  The key questions include:
 
  • How many books have you read in English?
  • How did you feel after reading your first book in English?
  • Do you think that reading books in English helps you to improve your English?
  • In what ways do you think that reading novels and literature helps your English?
  • Are there any ways in which you think that reading books in English is unhelpful for your English?
  • Are you proud of reading in English?
  • What is your main reason to read books in English?
  • Do you find some book genres easier to read than others?
  • Has reading in English ever had a de-motivating effect on you?
I'll anonymize any responses given, and then look for patterns in the data.  I'm interested in what you think about reading books and literature in English, and how you feel that it helps you.  I'll use the results of this survey to explore this area and I hope to present the results at an international conference such as the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL). 
 
I have already presented some results at an IATEFL Literature Special Interest Group one day conference, but I now want to expand my initial survey and capture more comments from learners of English.   So I really would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes giving me your views and opinions.  Thanks very much!

The IATEFL Literature Special Interest Group conference was entitled "Global Voices in Literature - Stories Without Borders". My session seemed to be well received. I presented my initial research about how my English book club participants think that reading in English helps their English acquisition.  There were lots of great sessions throughout the day including on creative writing, the use of adapted texts, on a book club for girls in Afghanistan and a session on mediation.
